Technical Information
At newfiresandfireplaces.co.uk, we have years of experience and knowledge and know we can offer you the perfect fireplace to suit your taste and to ensure it meets the requirements of your particular home. Within this section we have listed several categories of the products we offer and the type of flue system you may have:
Electric Suites
The term “Electric Suite” denotes a freestanding unit, which simply sits against your wall without the need for any drilling or masonry work. An electric fire sits within the fireplace and the only requirement is a 240-volt socket or fuse spur. The electric fire will operate as a light only, emitting a realistic flame effect, or with a fan built into the fire with an output of 1 or 2 kilowatts of heat.
Inset Electric Fires
With warmer and better-insulated homes, comes the need for better-designed electric fires. We have a full range of modern and traditional electric fires to suit most fireplaces. The only requirement is a 240-volt socket or fuse spur. The electric fire will operate as a light only emitting a realistic flame effect or with a fan built into the fire with an output of 1 or 2 kilowatts of heat.
Living Flame Gas Fires
Today, natural gas fires have replaced coal and other solid fuel types. The gas fire is clean and very simple to use there are several options you must be aware of before choosing your fire and our fully trained staff are only a phone call or email away to answer any technical queries. Class 1 fires operate in a brick chimney or on a 7" flue liner or pre-constructed flue. Class 2 operate on a 5" liner. Precast can operate on a 5” liner or precast flue construction. Balanced flue fires are glass-fronted fires, which are very efficient up to 80% in some case and require an outside wall to vent the fumes. Power Flue fires are for homes without chimneys and require an outside wall to vent the fumes
Limestone
Millions of years in the making, limestone is formed beneath the seabed by intense heat and pressure. It is a beautiful material for fireplaces, with many outstanding natural features such as delicate veining and small fossil marks. Harder than sandstone, limestone can be honed to give a smooth, matt finish – timeless perfection for any home. It is mined then cut to size and polished before being supplied to workshops in random sized sheets. NB Clean with warm soapy water. Do not stand any liquids on the surface and do not use furniture polish during cleaning.
Marble
Formed over millions of years, marble is a natural material created from limestone that has been fused by the intense heat of extreme pressure. Prone to inconsistent markings, marble is supplied to workshops in random sizes. This can make it a very expensive material from which to manufacture fireplaces.
Granite
Granite is an extremely hard, natural rock. Beautiful and durable, most types of granite are also more consistently patterned than marble. Given its dense structure, granite has the added benefit of being much more resistant to scratching and liquids. Supplied to workshops in random sizes, this is an expensive material due to the difficult and lengthy cutting and polishing processes required. Although widely used to clad buildings and as kitchen worktops, granite is particularly popular for fireplace hearths.
